SIMAS STREET DETOUR NEAR HIGHWAY 166 WEST BEGINS THIS WEEK
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY - A project to relocate drainage ditches along Hwy. 166 West near Guadalupe will result in a 24/7 full closure of Simas Street at Hwy. 166 beginning Tuesday, July 23 until Friday, July 26 for drainage work.
Motorists wishing to reach Simas Street will detour from Hwy. 166 onto Obispo Street to 11th Street. Only local traffic will be able to continue from 11th Street onto Simas Street. Motorists can expect a delay not to exceed 10 minutes.
This project will improve safety by relocating the drainage ditches and removing fixed objects on Hwy. 166 West from Simas Street to 1.5 miles east of Simas Street and from Bonita School Road to Black Road. This project will also create a 30 foot clear recovery zone allowing errant motorists more space off the highway lanes.
The contractor for this $1.5 million project is Raminha Construction of Atascadero. This project is expected to be complete this fall.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
