Van Winkle Ave railroad crossing to be closed from 9/9 thru 9/13/13. 
The NYS&W Railroad will be constructing a new railroad crossing including traffic gates at the Van Winkle Avenue crossing using NJDOT funds requested by the Borough of Hawthorne.
The project will require the crossing to be closed completely for one week, from Monday 9/9 through Friday 9/13, to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Although the officail detour for through traffic will take traffic from Lincoln Ave., to Rock Rd., to Goffle Rd. to Lafayette Ave., in town traffic wll be able to use the railroad crossing at Utter Avenue to avoid the long detour.
Although the project will create a temporary inconvenience, it will result in a permanent safety improvement for the Van Winkle railroad crossing.
