Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 6:30 a.m. on State Road 43 just north of I-65 (that is just south of the Lafayette State Police Post), a subject was arrested for battery on a Fireman.
Peter J. Figueroa, 39 years old from Wheatfield, IN was standing in the middle of SR 43 when Trooper Mike Krueger pulled up in his marked State Police Commission. Monticello Fireman Jacob O. Williams, 22 years old of Monticello, IN was standing outside of the Monticello Fire Department Ambulance that was parked southbound on SR 43 near Figueroa. Williams explained to Trooper Krueger that Figueroa had requested to be transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, IN when for an unknown reason changed his mind and tried to exit the moving ambulance. Williams continued stating that he tried to keep Figueroa from exiting the moving ambulance when Figueroa allegedly pushed Williams up against the inside of the ambulance. As the ambulance stopped Figueroa exited out the rear of the ambulance.
With assistance from Lieutenant Jay Janke and First Sergeant Brian Olehy, Figueroa was taken into custody and charged with Battery, a Class A Misdemeanor and transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail. Williams was not injured in the confrontation.
