LASD - Bear Found In a Vacant House Refuses to Leave on His Own Terms, Bradbury

During the morning hours of Sunday, July 07, 2013, Temple Station deputies responded to the 200 block of Barranca Road in the city of Bradbury, regarding a bear roaming inside a vacant house.

When deputies arrived, they saw a 250-300 pound bear inside the vacant residence. Deputies attempted to scare the bear away from the house and into his natural habitat; however, the bear was not amused and did not react to the deputies’ attempts to scare him off. After their futile attempts, deputies contacted the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

A Fish and Wildlife warden responded and saw the bear appeared to be sick or injured. At some point, the bear walked out of the house and into the yard where he was shot with tranquilizing darts, which did not take effect until after the third dart.

Once the bear was sedated, deputies along with Fish and Wildlife personnel carried the bear from the yard to a truck. The sleepy bear was transported by Fish and Wildlife personnel to an animal hospital for observation and treatment.
