(HOUSTON, TX)- A Harris County jury has convicted Saul Serna, 40, and sentenced him to life in prison for the 1998 murder of 19 year-old Ali Scott in north Harris County.

The verdict came down Thursday, June 27, 2013.

On April 20, 1998, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Serna and three other men broke into an apartment at 2402 Bammelwood Dr. Ali Scott, 19, and Darrion Surgers, 18 were inside the apartment at the time and exchanged gunfire with the burglars. Ali Scott and suspect Christopher Ibarra, 22, were killed in the exchange. The remaining three suspects fled the scene. After an initial investigation the case went unsolved.

Additional information on the case was developed in 2007 and the investigation continued through 2011. As a result, the three remaining suspects were identified and charged with capital murder.

Jesus “Jessie” Serna, 43, is a wanted fugitive.
