BRIEF NARRATIVE AS TO CIRCUMSTANCES:
On Thursday, June 21st at approximately 9:21 pm, a Novato Police Officer was patrolling the 1000 block of Fourth Street in a patrol vehicle that is equipped with an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR). The license plate reader alerted the officer to a reported stolen vehicle, a 1996 Nissan Sentra, which was parked on Fourth Street. The vehicle was confirmed stolen from Oakland, and processed for evidence.
The Novato Police Department currently has several patrol vehicles equipped with ALPR’s. The ALPR system can recognize license plates that have been entered into the database, and gathers valuable information that can assist with investigations.
