Topsfield Police Press Release

Press Release

At approximately 2:46 am on Sunday, June 9, 2013 members of the Topsfield Police Dept. responded to a residence on Washington St in the area of Main St for a domestic disturbance.

Officers arriving at the scene were approached by two people who alleged they were assaulted and threatened by a family member forcing them to flee the residence.

Due to the nature of the incident, officers secured the area and requested additional police assistance from neighboring towns as well as the State Police STOP Team, Fire and ambulance personnel.

Upon arrival State Police STOP team members were able to secure the residence and take custody of the suspect as he exited the residence. The suspect was turned over to Topsfield Officers for processing where he was identified as Daniel P. Morley, age 27, of Topsfield, Ma. He is being charged with two counts of Domestic Assault and Battery, Threatening to Commit Arson and Communicating a Bomb Scare.

After Mr. Morley was taken into custody, officers began processing the residence for evidence related to the initial call. Officers recovered from the suspects bedroom a loaded bolt action rifle, handgun, ammunition and numerous knives. Also located was a suspicious item that required the officers to request the response of the State Police Bomb Squad. The item was ultimately checked and determined not to be an explosive device.

Mr. Morley will be arraigned on the listed charges in the Ipswich District Court in Newburyport.

The case remains under investigation
