Crime Spree Suspects Arrested.

Armed Robbery and Residential Burglary Suspects Arrested

SUSPECT #1:
Miguel Alvarado, 18 year-old, Redwood City resident

SUSPECT #2:
Osvaido Lopez, 21 year-old, Redwood City resident

SUSPECT VEHICLES:
1997 White Ford Mustang Convertible

1999 Gold Ford Taurus (vehicle used in the burglary)

SUMMARY:

On Tuesday, May 28, 2013, between 3:50 am to 6:10 am, a series of three armed robberies occurred in Redwood City.

The first robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven located at 460 Woodside Road at 3:50 am. The suspect entered the store wearing a black hoodie and a mask. The suspect pointed a rifle at the clerk and demanded the money from the cash register. The clerk gave the suspect the money and the suspect fled on foot. The suspect was last seen running northbound towards Hess Road.

The second robbery occurred at the Food Stop Store located at 916 Whipple Avenue at 4:29 am. The suspect entered the store wearing a black hoodie and a mask. The suspect pointed a rifle at the clerk and demanded the money from the cash register. The clerk gave the suspect the money and he fled on foot northbound on Arguello Street. The clerk reported seeing a white Ford Mustang with a black convertible top in the area at the time of the robbery and thought the suspect was associated with the vehicle.

The third robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven located at 1700 Broadway at 6:10 am. The suspect entered the store wearing a black hoodie and a mask. The suspect pointed a rifle at the clerk and demanded the money from the cash register. The clerk gave the suspect the money and he fled southbound on Broadway. The clerk reported seeing the suspect get into a white vehicle with a black roof.

At approximately 6:28 am, Redwood City Police Sergeant Gil Gomez noticed a white mustang parked in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue. The vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was unoccupied but the headlights were on. Sergeant Gomez stopped to investigate and noticed a black hoodie in vehicle, which matched the description of the jacket worn by the suspect. Sergeant Gomez saw Miguel Alvarado and Osvaido Lopez, walk out from the driveway of a residence in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue. Once they noticed the sergeant, they retreated momentarily into the driveway. Additional officers responded to the scene and detained the suspects. Officers located currency in some bushes where the suspects were detained.

Detectives responded to the location to assist with the investigation. The suspects were arrested and transported to the police department. Search warrants were obtained for both suspects’ residences. During the execution of the search warrants, detectives located a
gold Ford Taurus that belonged to Suspect Lopez. The vehicle matched the description of a vehicle that was seen during a residential burglary which occurred in the 500 block of Katherine Avenue in Redwood City on May 23, 2013. The weapon used in the robberies was recovered at Suspect Alvarado’s residence. Detectives also located stolen property taken in the Katherine Avenue burglary in Suspect Alvarado’s residence.

Both suspects were booked into the San Mateo County Jail for robbery, residential burglary, and an enhancement for being a criminal street gang member. Anyone with information regarding these incidents or these suspects is encouraged to contact Detective Mark Alifano at 650-780-7677.
