Burlington Township Police Department has received numerous calls regarding the sighting of a black bear in the area of Rt. 541 and 295 in Burlington Township. Burlington Township Police Department officers have confirmed the sighting of the black bear. New Jersey Division of Fish and Game has been contacted and recommends the following:
• Never feed or approach a bear!
• Remain calm if you encounter a bear.
• Make the bear aware of your presence by speaking in an assertive voice, singing, clapping your hands, or making other noises.
• Make sure the bear has an escape route.
• Avoid direct eye contact and never run from a bear. Instead, slowly back away.
• Secure all trash receptacles and dumpster; remove all bird feeders.
