Off-Duty Officer Revives Elderly Man
A Suffolk County Police off-duty officer revived an elderly man who suffered a heart attack in Mount Sinai today.
Lance Prager, an off-duty Emergency Service Section officer had just left training for Advanced Life Support as part of the Suffolk County MedCAT Team, when he witnessed an elderly man suffer cardiac arrest at the Agway of Port Jefferson store located at 295 Route 25A at 3:27 p.m. The 86-year-old victim dropped to the floor and had no pulse or respiration. Officer Prager asked an employee to retrieve his medical bag from his car and started CPR. Sixth Precinct Patrol Officers Anthony Passarella and Frank Ribaudo arrived and started doing compressions and helped administer a shock with a defibrillator.
The victim started breathing on his own and was taken by Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson. He is currently in the critical care unit in critical but stable condition.
