Indiana State Police Major Recognized for 35 Years of Service
Fort Wayne, IN-An Indiana State Police Major recently observed a milestone in his career as a result of achievement, service and dedication to the Indiana State Police Department and to the citizens of the State of Indiana.
Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter presented Major Gary A. Robbins a Departmental award this morning recognizing him for his longevity encompassing 35 years of dedicated service.
Robbins, who is originally from Marion, Indiana, is a 1973 graduate of Marion High School. He attended Ball State University for three years where he studied Criminology before being accepted to the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. On May 28, 1978, he was appointed as a Trooper and assigned to the Fort Wayne Post.
During his career with the State Police, Robbins worked the road for nine years as a Trooper in Huntington County before being promoted to the rank of Corporal, which he held for three years. He then served as Sergeant for the Troopers in Allen and Adams Counties for two years, First Sergeant for seven years, and for 10 years he served as the Fort Wayne District Commander at the rank of Lieutenant. In February 2009, Robbins was promoted to the rank of Major and currently oversees the operations of the northern half of the State, which includes the following six State Police Posts: Bremen, Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Lowell, Peru, and the Toll Road. He is a 1990 graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command and has also been a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon.
Robbins and his wife, Kathy, reside in rural Albion (Noble County). He has two children, Jennifer (deceased) and Brian, 25.
