Century Detectives Capture Attempt Murder Suspect

On May 9, 2013, officers from the Hemet Police Department were investigating two stabbing incidents that occurred in the city of Hemet. During the initial investigation, a caller reported that his vehicle had just been stolen. Hemet police officers were able to confirm that the vehicle that had just been stolen was also used in the stabbings of three victims.

Fortunately, the vehicle was equipped with a “LoJack” transponder that had been installed in 2006. Hemet officers entered the vehicle information into state and federal crime databases which automatically activated the transponder. Shortly after the transponder was activated, Century Station detectives began acquiring the silent “LoJack” homing signal and followed the directional cues aboard their vehicle’s “LoJack” tracking computer to an area near Golden Street and Short Avenue, in the city of Compton.

The vehicle was parked and unoccupied. As additional units were responding to the location, a male suspect entered the vehicle and drove away. A felony traffic stop was conducted and the suspect was subsequently detained pending an assault with a deadly weapon and stolen vehicle investigation.

Century Station detectives detained the suspect until the arrival of an officer from Hemet PD. Based upon their investigation and statements made to Century Station detectives, Hemet PD arrested the suspect for attempt murder and auto theft.

This incident highlights the incredible ways technology has helped Century Station detectives and deputies make arrests across jurisdictional boundaries and bring justice to victims.
