Compton YAL Students, First Prize Winners at the first annual Sheriff Youth Foundation “Kids Got Talent” contest.

One of our more popular activities at the Compton Youth Activities League (YAL) (700 N. Alameda St, Compton) is our performing arts program, headed by our very talented dance and performing arts instructor Ms. Kareema. We are very happy to share our exciting news about three of our very own dance performers in the” Pink Diamonds” dance group. Our Pink Diamonds took part in the first annual Sheriff Youth Foundation “Kids Got Talent” show. The talent show was hosted by West Hollywood YAL in their Fiesta Hall on May 11, 2013. The girls prepared their costumes, practiced their hearts out and got ready to wow the judges. Although they were a little nervous they gave it their all during their praise dance performance of “He Wants it All”. Our Pink Diamonds were one of 14 acts in the show. At the end of the show we waited anxiously but patiently for the winners to be announced. The 3rd place winners were announced, the 2nd place winners, then to our great surprise, our “Pink Diamonds” were announced as the 1st prize winners. Our “Pink Diamonds” received $1000.00 to share and our YAL account received $1000.00.

As part of our performing arts program, the YAL hosted a Christmas celebration called “A Cocoa Christmas”. Our student members showcased their efforts in acting, dancing and singing. On May 23rd 2013 our YAL dancers were invited to perform alongside “Princess Kay” at the annual Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation “Race for the Cure” at Dodger stadium. They were part of a variety of shows and booths in support of the cancer survivors. The dancers were very excited to be part of such a worthy cause. They all dressed up in their pretty pink and performed for the racers, cancer survivors and the general public. We were very excited to see their enthusiasm and commitment to the cause. Our dance group was one of many performers at the event.
