Suicidal Man Saved by Century Deputies

On the afternoon of May 13, 2013, Century Station deputies responded to a call on the 10500 block of Long Beach Blvd, Lynwood, regarding an adult male standing on top of a roof while armed with a knife. When deputies arrived on scene, they located the male on the roof. The male seemed distraught as deputies observed the male holding a knife to his chest while screaming “Somebody kill me!”

While pacing back and forth, the male would lower the knife for a brief moment, and would then place the tip of the knife back to his chest. While in constant verbal communication with the male, assisting deputies quickly established a containment, formulated a contingency plan, deployed less than lethal weapons, and requested paramedics to stand by.

After several tense moments, deputies were able to convince the male into dropping the knife and coming down from the roof without causing injury to himself or others.

It is unknown what prompted the man to want to take his life. The man was later taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
