(Update) Sat,10PM, Deputy Involved Shooting, Walnut St. west of Otis Ave, Cudahy- LASD Homicide

***UPDATE***

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the deputy-involved shooting that occurred Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 10:02 P.M.

Investigators have learned that East Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of the 4400 block of Elizabeth Street, Cudahy, regarding a pending fight at which a man was seen with a gun.

Additional information included that a vehicle had been seen leaving the location in which a suspect may have fled the location. An East Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy located the vehicle and as he was following it, the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road on Walnut Street, west of Otis Avenue, Cudahy.

A male adult suspect exited the vehicle and advanced on the Deputy, ignoring the Deputy's commands to stop. The suspect attempted to take the Deputy's duty firearm at which time, the Deputy feared for his life and fired one round, striking the suspect in the upper torso. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A handgun was recovered from inside of the vehicle. The driver, a female adult, was detained for questioning and released.

These include separate investigations by the Offices of the L.A. Co. District Attorney and the L.A. Co. Coroner, in addition to Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the sheriff's department throughout every phase of these thorough investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
