Pedestrian Struck By Car

Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 1:04 p.m, the Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post received a call of a pedestrian struck on County Road 650 north approximately one quarter of a mile west of State Road 43 (that is approximately one half mile north of the State Police Post).

The preliminary investigation by Trooper Mike Krueger has revealed that a gray 2009 Toyota driven by Wo Ming Gong, 40 years old from Lafayette, IN was westbound on CR 650 north when he struck Benjamin Rice, 88 years old from West Lafayette, IN who was working in his flower garden near the road. Gong drove the vehicle right of the white line of the roadway hitting Rice and knocking him to the ground. Gong was delivering food to Woods Edge Trailer Park for Peking Chinese Restaurant of Lafayette. Rice was transported by Tippecanoe County EMS to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with non life-threatening injuries. Wong was cited for Unsafe Lane Movement and released. The investigation is continuing.

Assisting at the scene was Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Sergeant Rich Kelly and Master Troopers Mike Probasco and Robert Hawkins. The Investigation is continuing.
