Homicide and attempted suicide 1700 block of Carleton Court

VICTIM: 72 year-old, female, Redwood City resident
SUSPECT: 69 year-old, male, Redwood City resident
WEAPON USED: Handgun
INCIDENT SUMMARY:
On Monday, April 22, 2013, at approximately 12:48 am, Redwood City officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Carleton Court in Redwood City on a report of a female who needed medical assistance. When the officers arrived at the residence, they located the victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. They also located the suspect who was suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition. The suspect and the victim are husband and wife. This is an on-going investigation and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. Detectives are not looking for any additional suspects at this time. The identities of the victim and the suspect are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
