Sun Prairie Police Department Media Release
From: Assistant Police Chief Scott Faust
Date: April 5, 2013
Subject: Arrest at 712 Chase Boulevard
On April 5, 2013, shortly before 3pm, the Sun Prairie Police Department received a report of a possible armed man at 712 Chase Boulevard. The Police Department was contacted by two persons who had been conducting a home visit at this address. During the home visit, the subject of the home visit, a 60 year old Sun Prairie resident, made suicidal comments and waived what appeared to be a handgun.
Officers arrived on scene and began to secure the building and evacuate residents. During this process, the 60 year old male entered a hallway and failed to comply with officer requests, which were designed to safely take him into custody. Officers used a less lethal bean bag projectile on this person to ensure the safety of all involved. The 60 year old male, later identified as John Tyaransen, was taken into custody. He did receive medical attention.
During the investigation, it was determined that the firearm in question was BB gun. Sun Prairie Police have charged Tyaransen with Disorderly Conduct, Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, Carrying Concealed Weapon, and Bail Jumping.
