Redwood City Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

DATE/ TIME: April 1, 2013 at 4:43 PM

Suspect: Marco Antonio Rubio Baez, 27-years-old, Redwood City

On April 1, 2013 at approximately 4:43 pm Redwood City Police Officers responded to the First Republic Bank at 776 El Camino Real on report of a bank robbery that had just occurred. The suspect entered the bank, presented a demand note to a teller, and then fled with the stolen cash. A bank employee called the police as soon as the suspect fled, while two other bank employees went outside and saw the suspect walking southbound on Broadway. One bank employee began following the suspect from a safe distance and was able to use his cell phone to provide RCPD dispatchers with a good description and direction of travel. Responding officers were able to use this information to coordinate their response and quickly spotted the suspect as he fled through the 1 James bus station and then into Sequoia Station. After a brief foot pursuit with officers, the suspect was detained and arrested without further incident. All of the money stolen from the bank was recovered, as well as the demand note and other contraband. The suspect was subsequently booked at San Mateo County jail on one count of first degree robbery and one count of possession of a controlled substance, Methamphetamine.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Redwood City Police Department at (650) 780-7100.
