Crescenta Valley Explorers participated in the 2nd Annual Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Explorer Competition

During the March 23rd -24th weekend, 18 Explorer Teams from around Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada, participated in the 2nd annual Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Explorer Competition at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, CA.

This event was hosted by Santa Clarita, Palmdale, and Lancaster Sheriff’s Stations. Explorer Posts from as far away as Arizona and Las Vegas participated. Other California posts included Redondo Beach Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Bell Police Department, Long Beach Police Department, Monterey Park Police Department, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and several Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Stations, including; Crescenta Valley, Pico Rivera, Century, Lomita, and Lakewood.

The Crescenta Valley Explorers earned two first place trophies; Narcotics Take Down and Family Disturbance. They earned second in; High Risk Traffic Stop and Tubular Assault. The team earned third place in the Active Shooter scenario.

Beside the team awards, Explorers Kevin Lentz and Mark Miller placed second in the Explorer Fitness Challenge which was designed by the United States Marine Corps. Due to the rigorous physical challenges, only the top physically fit explorers were selected to participate in this event.

Since its inception in 1969, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Law Enforcement Explorer Program has created new inroads of understanding between youth, law enforcement, and the community. Interested youth between the ages of 14-21 can contact their local Sheriff’s Station for more information on the Explorer Program. If you are interested in joining the Crescenta Valley Explorer Post, please contact the Explorer Advisor at 818-248-3464.
