Kelseys Law Takes Effect March 28th, promting safe driving habits for newer drivers

What is known as "Kelseys Law" can be found in Michigan Compiled Laws, or MCL 257.602c. This law states the following
(1) provides an individual issued a level 1 or level 2 graduated license under section 257. 310e shall not “use” a cellular telephone while operating a motor vehicle upon a highway or street.
“Use” means to initiate a call; answer a call; or listen to or engage in verbal communication through the cellular telephone.

This does not apply to an individual using a voice-operated system that is integrated into the motor vehicle. MCL 257.602c applies to current and future Level 1 or 2 graduated license holders.

The Sheriff's Office also promotes the "STOPPED" program in an effort to partner with parents/guardians of teenaged drivers. This notification system is designed to promote safe driving habits. For more information on this program you can click on the following link:
