2 Amarillo men arrested after drive by shooting.

On March 19th, just after 7pm, officers who were in the downtown area heard what sounded like gun shots. Officers proceeded to the area of SW 2nd and Jackson where they believed the shots may have come from. While in the area officers were flagged down by witnesses who stated that the occupants of a small silver or gray car had just shot at a house. The officers then located the homeowner who resides in the 100 block of S Jackson and observed 6 bullet holes in the side of the house. The homeowner and her 2 children ages 12 and 5 were in the house at the time when the mother heard shots being fired. The homeowner did not see the suspects outside the house, but from what other neighbors reported, the small silver or grey car was the one who had shot at the house. As officers were gathering information a broadcast was put out over the radio of the possible suspect vehicle. A few minutes later an officer stopped a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle at SW 3rd and McMasters. All occupants of the vehicle were removed and a witness from SW 2 & Jackson came over to identify the vehicle and occupants. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle from the owner, officers located a semi automatic pistol in the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were taken to the police department for questioning. After further investigation, officers arrested two occupants out of the vehicle for shooting at the house. Arrested was Michael Anthony Reyes H/M 18 of Amarillo for Deadly Conduct Discharge of a Firearm, and Eric Matthew Benwire W/M 28 of Amarillo for Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The other occupants of the vehicle were released. The incident remains under investigation.
