OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING 9100 SKILLMAN

On March 15, 2013, at about 1:59 a.m., Officers Kyle Tholl and Erik Vasquez were patrolling the 9100 block of Skillman Street. This area is known to police as having a high crime rate and drug sales. The officers observed two people conducting what they believed to be a drug transaction and stopped to investigate. As the officers exited their squad car and approached the two suspects conducting a drug transaction, Officer Tholl observed Suspect Christopher Jones appear from behind a dumpster with a coat draped over his shoulders and his hands at his front waistband. Officer Tholl approached Suspect Jones and he observed what appeared to be a gun in Jones’ hand. Officer Tholl pulled his duty weapon and gave loud verbal commands for Suspect Jones to drop his weapon. Suspect Jones began raising the gun toward Officer Tholl, and fearing for his life, Officer Tholl fired his weapon. Suspect Jones dropped to the ground yelling “It’s a BB gun, it’s a BB gun!” Suspect Jones was not injured and was taken into custody.

Recovered at the scene was one BB gun that closely resembled a 9mm handgun.

Suspect Jones has been handled previously for Burglary of a Habitation, Burglary of a Vehicle, Evading Arrest/ Detention, Indecency with a Child/Sexual Contact.

Suspect Samuel Williams, one of the two participants in the drug transaction, has been handled previously for Theft, Resist Arrest/Search or Transport, Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence, Possession of Controlled Substance, Unauthorized Use Vehicle, Possession Marijuana. He was taken into custody and charged with Public Intoxication and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.


Suspect Jones will be charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer F/1, and a Hold out of Denton County.

No officers or suspects were injured during this incident.
