Rollover Crash sends Two to Local Hospital

Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 11:16 a.m, Indiana State Police at Lafayette were advised of a single vehicle rollover on I-65 south bound near the 166 mile marker in Tippecanoe County. This location is approximately two miles south of the State Road 38 exit.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Darrick Scott of the Indiana State Police has revealed a maroon 1999 Subaru Forester was traveling south bound on the interstate in the left hand passing lane. The driver, Leslie E. Urban, 23 years old from Baltimore, MD stated she was attempting to get back into the right lane when she noticed a vehicle already there. She turned the wheel left and ran off the roadway on the inside shoulder then over corrected and the vehicle rolled on its side and came to rest in the middle of the highway.

Urban and her younger sister sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital East in Lafayette. Seatbelts were in use which probably helped in lessening the severity of the injuries. The Subaru was a total loss. The interstate was shut down for approximately 15 minutes and was one lane for about 45 minutes for transportation of the injured and cleanup of the crash.

Assisting at the scene was Sergeant Kim Riley of the Indiana State Police and Trooper Ashley Kelley of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Indiana State Police. Also assisting was the Sheffield Fire Department and Tippecanoe County EMS.
