Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau arrested two suspects from a local business in East Los Angeles for continuously hitting and beating 9 male and 2 female juveniles who ranged in age from 12 years old to 17 years old. The suspects, Edgar Alvarado and Ruben Romero, are instructors at this business which is known as “Recon 180,” which is geared towards instilling leadership and self-discipline for teenagers through a paramilitary structured setting. The physical abuse occurred at the Recon 180 training facility in the Angeles Crest Mountains known as Camp Coulter, and at their headquarters in the 1000 block of Goodrich Boulevard, East Los Angeles, between the years 2010 and 2012. Additionally, one of the girls alleged that she was inappropriately touched by suspect Edgar Alvarado. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who reviewed the case and filed 3 felony counts of Willful Injury to a Child Causing Great Bodily Injury, 1 felony count of Corporal Injury to a Child, and 1 felony count of Sexual Battery on suspect Edgar Alvarado and 3 misdemeanor counts of Battery on suspect Ruben Romero.
Detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying additional victims who might have been victimized by the staff at the “Recon 180” Boot Camp Facilities.
