Local Agencies Partner to Benefit Relay for Life

Clay County—On Monday, March 11, members of various governmental agencies united for a common cause; the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life campaign. Agency representatives served as “celebrity waiters” at Pappy’s Barbecue located at 111 East National Avenue in Brazil from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm with all tips going to the Relay for Life campaign. Approximately 200 individuals attended the fundraiser and a total of $1700 was collected through tips and dessert sales.

During the event, a spirited competition for tips erupted between “team city” Brazil Mayor Bryan Wyndham, Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen, Brazil Fire Chief Jake Bennett and rivals “team county-state” consisting of Indiana State Police Major Brent Johnson, ISP Lieutenant Dan Jones, Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton and Clay County Chief Deputy Sheriff Rob Gambill. Winning the “tips race” was “team city” with $771.83 to 683.00 collected by “team county-state”. The remaining $245.17 was raised through dessert sales.

Organizing the event were Molly Ascheman and cancer survivor Chris Schurick, a Clay County resident and employee of the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post.

This evening’s event is just one of the many ways the Indiana State Police utilizes its resources to serve the citizens of Indiana.
