Lakewood Community Run today. TRAFFIC DELAYS EXPECTED, 7:30AM TO 10:30AM.
Residents and visitors are advised they may encounter possible traffic delays when traveling certain streets on Saturday, March 9, from 7:30-10:30 a.m. The annual Lakewood Sheriff’s Community Run begins on Clark Avenue. Hundreds of runners, walkers and wheelchair participants will be in attendance, and Sheriff’s deputies and volunteers will be assigned to traffic control and safety that morning.
After the 8:00 a.m. shotgun start in front of the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station on Clark Avenue, runners will head north then turn east onto South Street. The 10K route continues to Palo Verde Avenue, where runners will head south. Runners turn right onto Harvey Way, heading west. The route moves north again at Woodruff Avenue, then west at Del Amo Boulevard. The final leg is at Faculty Avenue, where runners will head north to the finish line, adjacent to Home Depot at Lakewood Center.
The following intersections may experience delays during the hours of 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., when deputies and Volunteers on Patrol temporarily halt traffic for runners:
Woodruff Avenue, at Harvey Way
Woodruff Avenue, at South Street
Del Amo Boulevard, at Studebaker Road
South Street, at Clark Avenue
Candlewood Street, at Castana Avenue
Northbound Clark Avenue, south of Del Amo Boulevard
If possible, avoid these intersections during the specified times on Saturday, March 9 by planning alternate routes to your destination.
All proceeds from this annual event, sponsored by the Lakewood Station and Soroptimist International of Lakewood/Long Beach, go to support scholarships and other programs benefitting women and girls throughout the Lakewood community, as well as activities that support Lakewood Sheriff’s Employee Fund.
Community Run sponsors include: City of Lakewood, Lakewood Center, LA County Supervisor Don Knabe, Wells Fargo Bank, Care Ambulance Service, Clipper Magazine, EDCO Waste Services, Foggia Italian Market & Deli, Lakewood Regional Medical Center/Lakewood Physicians IPA, Piazza Family Restaurants, Southern California Edison, Time Warner Cable and the Water Replenishment District.
Those interested in participating in either the 5K, 10K, 5K Walk or 1-Mile Family Fun Run can register on race day. Registration takes place at Lakewood Center, just north of Pacific Theaters. A t-shirt and refreshments are included in the $35 race day fee; Fun Run registration is just $15.
