One Traffic Stop Nets Two Operating While Intoxicated Arrests
Crawfordsville-Early this morning at approximately 12:48 a.m. on Darlington Avenue near Oak Street in Crawfordsville, IN, a trooper made a traffic stop and ended up arresting the driver and passenger for Operating While Intoxicated.
Trooper Dave Millburg of the Indiana State Police at Lafayette Post stopped a black 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Mark A. Stacey, 36 years old from Crawfordsville, IN for a broken taillight. While talking to Stacey, the trooper could smell the odor of alcoholic beverage. While conducting sobriety tests on Stacey, the passenger, Jolene A. Burchett, 25 years old from Crawfordsville, IN scooted across the seat and got behind the wheel of the pickup truck and drove away.
Burchett continued down Darlington Street and then turned left onto Pine Street. She then turned right onto Pike Street where she struck a parked car then ran up onto the curb and started up an embankment. The truck got stuck in the mud and Trooper Millburg got her out of the vehicle and placed her under arrest. Both Stacey and Burchett were incarcerated in the Montgomery county Jail.
Charges of Operating While Intoxicated .11% BAC, a Class A Misdemeanor and OWI Endangering a Person a Class C Felony were levied against Stacey. Burchett was charged with Operating While Intoxicated .19% BAC a Class A Misdemeanor, OWI Endangering a Person a Class C Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement a Class A Misdemeanor, Resisting Law Enforcement With a Vehicle a Class D Felony and Operating While Never Receiving a License a Class A Misdemeanor.
Assisting at the scene was the Crawfordsville Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.
