Warm temperatures expected over the next few days will cause rapid melting of the recent snow (8-11in). The National Weather Service is also indicating the potential of moderate to heavy rain Saturday night thru Monday. With both of these situations combined we will most likely see flooding in low lying areas, ponding on roads, and a significant rise in water levels in ditches, creeks and retention ponds over the weekend and into the early part of next week. In addition, should we approach or exceed two inches of rainfall, coupled with the melting snow we may have issues with the river(s).
Remember the following safety tips:
Report flooded roads to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department or Marshall County Highway Department.
Never allow children to play near flooded areas (cold water and swift moving water are both dangerous).
Never drive around barricades that are blocking roads that are flooded.
Never drive through flooded roadways as road beds may be washed out under the flood waters.
Be especially careful when driving at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.
If flooding occurs, get to higher ground.
