Traffic Stop Yields Methamphetamine Arrest

Traffic Stop Yields Methamphetamine Arrest

Hancock County, IN- Late this morning, March 5th, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Trooper Matt Wilson stopped a 2000 Georgia Boy Recreational Vehicle EB on I-70 near Mt. Comfort for a traffic violation.

While conducting the stop, Trooper Wilson detected several inconsistencies in the occupant’s stories and suspected criminal activity was afoot.

Trooper Wilson conducted a free air search with his K-9 partner Barrett and obtained a positive reaction. A subsequent search of the RV yielded a large amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and precursors.

The driver of the vehicle, Christopher Purvis, 40, of Kansas, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine (B-Felony) and Dealing Methamphetamine (B-Felony). He was transported to the Hancock County Jail without incident.

The female passenger was not arrested.

A mug shot of the suspect can be obtained at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.

Criminals use vehicles and troopers stop vehicles. Often times, the “routine traffic stop” begins as a traffic ticket and ends with a criminal arrest because of the training a trooper receives to “look beyond the ticket”.

You can report suspected methamphetamine activity by contacting the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Unit at www.in.gov/meth or (317) 677-6384.
