Advisory

OEM@ Duty Officer Status. #RIPCurrents a Risk. Live on the Coast? Learn UR #Tsunami Risk. Map@ countyofsb.org/ceo/oes

Like any other coastal area, Santa Barbara County has a risk of being impacted by a Tsunami. Although rare, there are a couple of rules to remember:
- In case of a VERY large local and prolonged earthquake, quickly move to higher ground; away from the water. DO NOT WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS.
- "Distant Tsunamis" are from other locations in the world. Emergency officials can monitor ocean impacts and provide important information and instructions before any arrival. Listen and follow instructions.
- With such a diverse coastline, many areas are well-above any Tsunami risk. Others are at significant risk and should be avoided when there is a Tsunami risk. Tsunami inundation maps can be found at http://countyofsb.org/ceo/oes.aspx?id=376 (scroll down for maps).
