How Can You Help OPD?

How can you help the Oakland Police Department (OPD)? We would like to remind you about the OPD’s non-emergency number. This number is a useful tool for the community to aid OPD’s crime fighting efforts. The non-emergency number (510-777-3333) should be used to report any suspicious behavior and suspicious vehicles parked or driving in your neighborhood or area of business. Please include any descriptive details that could be helpful.

When reporting suspicious vehicles try to include color, make and model of the vehicle, observe the number of doors, license plate number (even if a partial number); all information is helpful, no matter how small. When reporting suspicious individuals try to describe clothing, hairstyle, height, approximate weight, age and gender. Jot down the date, time and location you saw the vehicle or suspicious person. Each time this information is reported, it is used in the investigative process.

Remember, if you see a crime in progress you should call the emergency number at 510-777-3211 from your cell phone or 911 from your landline phone.

In general, follow your gut instinct, if you believe something is suspicious call the non-emergency number and report it. DO NOT place yourself in danger. Stay safe and report the suspicious behavior, let OPD follow up on the information.
