Subject: Arson Investigation

On Saturday, February 9, 2013 at approximately 1:44 P.M., the Sun Prairie Fire Department responded to the 1200 block of Schumann Street in the City of Sun Prairie for a report of a structure fire. The Fire Department was able to get the fire under control within approximately 15 minutes with 20 personnel. Fire Department staff estimated the damage to the structure exceeded $40,000. Based on observations at the scene, Fire Department staff believed the cause of the fire to be suspicious and alerted the Police Department at that time.

A joint investigation was conducted with the Sun Prairie Police Department, Sun Prairie Fire Department, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, and Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation/ State Fire Marshal. At the conclusion of the on scene investigation, investigators have ruled the cause of the fire to be arson. At this time, there are no suspects in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
