Press Release

Woman charged with child endangerment, arson for setting fires

Mayor Nicholas Poliseno and Chief Karl G. Martin of the Spotswood Police Department announced today that a borough woman has been arrested and charged with setting three fires, including a house fire that endangered two children who were home at the time. The children were not injured.

Roccal Gilmore (DOB 6/26/72) of 15 Brookside Road, Spotswood was arrested at her home on February 8, 2013, and was charged with three counts of second degree aggravated arson and one count of a second degree endangering the welfare of the children.

Gilmore is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $250,000 bail.

She was arrested and charged following an investigation by Detective John Pfeiffer of the Spotswood Police Department and Investigator Todd O’Malley of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

During the investigation it was determined that Gilmore set fire to the exterior of her home and to neighbors’ cars, one a 2009 Nissan Sentra, the other a 2007 Honda Odyssey.

The fires were quickly extinguished. The children, ages 8 and 3, were in the house when the fire was set, but they were not injured.

Following the arrest, Prosecutor Kaplan thanked the Spotswood Police Department for its work on the case.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Pfeiffer of the Spotswood Police Department at (732) 251-2121, or Investigator O’Malley of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3908.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, Gilmore is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Very truly yours,

Nicholas Poliseno
Mayor
