Information released to clarify rumors circulating of lockdown at high school

The Bergenfield Police Department has been receiving phone calls from media outlets inquiring about a possible school lockdown or weapon at the high school on this date. To clarify the reports being made, the following information is being released:

On February 5, 2013 at approx 1025 hrs Bergenfield Police were called by staff at the high school to assist with a student who was possibly in need of a mental health evaluation. A BPD patrol officer and juvenile officer were dispatched to the school. Reports were circulating that the school went into “lockdown” due to a weapon. This is information incorrect. At no time were there any imminent threats or any forms of violence. The school did not go into a lockdown. The matter was handled as a Mental Health situation and the follow up involved the officers and the youth’s parents. The youth, whose information is not being released because of age and circumstances, will be evaluated further at a local hospital.
