Driver Arrested After Short Pursuit

Darlington-Today at approximately 12:19 a.m. on State road 47 near County Road 500 east (that is approximately 1 mile west of Darlington), a Trooper with the Indiana State Police and a Montgomery County Deputy had a short pursuit which ended in the arrest of an alleged drunk driver.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a Trooper and the Deputy attempted to stop a blue Chevrolet pickup traveling northbound on SR 47 near CR 500 east. A short pursuit lasting about one minute before the driver, Craig M. Cook, 61 years old from Crawfordsville, IN pulled the truck over. The officers gave verbal commands to exit the vehicle and Cook refused to follow lawful commands. Cook finally exited the vehicle still refusing to comply with the officers lawful commands. Cook reached inside his clothing appearing to reach for a handgun on his belt when the Deputy deployed his taser as the Trooper fired his weapon. Cook fell to the ground from the taser striking his head on the pavement. The officers moved in and executed the arrest. The officers gave first aid to Cook who was later transported by ambulance to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville for non-life threatening injuries. The round from the Trooper did not strike the suspect.

Cook has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary charges of Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon-Class C Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Deadly Weapon-Class D Felony and Operating While Intoxicated-Class A Misdemeanor. Further charges may be pending. Assisting at the scene was the Darlington Volunteer Fire Department.

This will be all the information released at this time. To get a picture of the suspect, contact Montgomery County Jail.
