Details: The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is investigating a fatal two car motor vehicle accident that occurred on Vassar Road near Silver Lane at approximately 8:14 p.m. on January 19, 2013.
A preliminary investigation has disclosed that a 2008 Jeep Liberty, being operated by a 22 year old male from Wappingers Falls, N.Y., was traveling southbound on Vassar Road. A 2001 Nissan Sentra, operated by Stephanie Brennan, age 29, from Wappingers Falls, N.Y., was traveling northbound on Vassar Road. Brennan crossed over the double yellow lines into the southbound lane of Vassar Road in an attempt to pass another vehicle, subsequently colliding head on into the southbound Jeep Liberty. Stephanie Brennan was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office.
The operator of the Jeep Liberty and his 23 year old female passenger sustained survivable injuries and were transported to St. Francis Hospital. The investigation indicated that the three (3) victims involved in the accident were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. A portion of Vassar Road was closed for approximately seven (7) hours during the investigation.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police were assisted at the scene by the Arlington Fire District, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit is continuing the investigation and is asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call them at 845-485-3680.
