In the early morning hours of January 13, 2013, officers were dispatched to 600 S. Bolton Apt. C reference an in progress burglary with intent to commit assault. The female caller advised that her ex-boyfriend entered the residence without permission and was actively assaulting her. She further explained that her current boyfriend who also lives at the residence defended her with a weapon. Officers arrived and found a man lying on the front driveway with laceration wounds to his upper body. The male and female residents from the home reported that the suspect was the female’s ex-boyfriend and he entered the house without permission and was assaulting her. The male resident/current boyfriend heard the commotion and entered the front room where he witnessed the assault. The male resident was armed and stepped in between his girlfriend and the suspect. The suspect raised his hand and advanced towards the male resident who then struck the suspect with the weapon. The suspect sustained a laceration wound to the upper body and staggered outside of the residence where he collapsed on the driveway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased was identified as Christopher Wayne Mooney, age 37. Justice of the Peace Nancy Bosquez has ordered an autopsy which will be performed at a later date. The male and female occupants from the residence have been questioned and released pending further investigation. The Special Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation and requests that anyone with information about this case call 378-9468.
