Advisory

$6,000 reward offered to help solve law enforcement vehicle break-ins

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects who broke into six law enforcement vehicles and one civilian car in the early morning hours of January 7 in southeast Kansas City. This is in addition to the $1,000 reward made available through Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers.

At about 2:30 a.m. Monday, Kansas City Police officers responded to a sound of shots call on Bannister Road near Hocker. They located spent shotgun casings and numerous articles of law enforcement gear in a roadside ditch. Officers canvassed the adjacent subdivision and found one Kansas City Police car, one Jackson County Sheriff’s car and one civilian vehicle had been broken into.

Officers then went to 80th Street and Rinehart on another sound of shots call. They found more spent rounds of ammunition and law enforcement gear in a ditch. After canvassing the adjacent subdivision, they found another three Kansas City Police cars and one Jackson County Sheriff’s car had been broken into.

Additionally, another Jackson County Sheriff’s vehicle was broken into on Friday, Jan. 4, near 98th and Wornall.

Anyone with information that could assist police in solving these crimes is urged to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
