Lafayette Post Welcomes Four New Troopers
Lafayette-Last week the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post welcomed four new troopers who had graduated from the 72nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy on December 21, 2012. The new troopers are Aaron D. Allen, Stephen W. Grayson, Bernie McGee and Clayton Gum.
Trooper Allen was born and raised on the west side of Indianapolis. After graduating from Ben Davis High School where he played football for four years, he attended Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY where he studied Elementary Education. Allen will be working Tippecanoe and Clinton Counties.
Trooper Grayson is originally from Charlestown, IN and graduated from Charlestown High School where he played football, basketball and golf. He attended Franklin College for two years and transferred to the University of Tennessee where he studied Sociology. Grayson is engaged and will be working White and Carroll Counties.
Trooper McGee is from Terre Haute, IN where he attended Terre Haute North Vigo High School. After graduation, he went on to attend Indiana State University where he got a Bachelors of Communication Degree in radio, television and film. McGee has continued on in his education and is working on a Masters Degree in Recreational Sports Management. McGee will also be working Tippecanoe and Clinton Counties.
Trooper Gum is a native of Knox County and graduated from North Judson-San Pierre High School. After high school, he attended Wabash College and received a Degree in Economics. Gum will be working Montgomery and Fountain Counties and will reside in Crawfordsville, IN.
All four troopers began their 14 weeks of field training with experienced troopers this week. The field training program allows them the opportunity to put the skills and knowledge they gained in the academy to work in the real world environment. Upon successful completion of the field training program, they will receive their own patrol vehicles and begin solo patrol duties.
During the academy, recruits received approximately 930 hours of structured law enforcement training which included 80 hours of criminal law, 80 hours of emergency vehicle operations training, and 47 hours of traffic law. They also developed skills in criminal investigation, 47 hours of vehicle crash investigation, impaired driver detection and other numerous law related subjects.
“It is great to see new troopers come to Lafayette Post. These four troopers will help in providing the service to the motoring public and the citizens of Indiana that they deserve.” Lieutenant Jay Janke Commander of the Lafayette Post explains. “Our experienced officers will work hard at training these young men in the performance of their duties.”
