Advisory

Indiana State Police Advise Roads Remain Slick & Hazardous

As the first major storm of 2012 moves out of Indiana public safety personnel from all branches of city, county and state government will be working to clear roads and continue rendering assistance to motorists in need.

Much of the cautionary advisory information sent out prior to the storm is still applicable as work continues to treat roads that are ice and snow covered.

Please continue to follow these tips from your Indiana State Police:

• Do not call city, county or state police to check on road conditions – police agencies across the state want to keep phone lines open for emergency phone calls
• For up-to-date weather information the best source is your favorite TV or radio station or check the National Weather Service at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ind/
• Visit www.TrafficWise.IN.gov or dial toll-free 1-800-261-ROAD (7623) for updated Indiana travel information, including road conditions, road closures, construction information, crashes and other traffic alerts
• A fully charged and functioning cell phone is your best friend when traveling
• Vehicles left abandoned along interstate and state road right-of-ways are subject to immediate removal over the course of inclement weather events
• Avoid travel that is not absolutely necessary so road crews may work more efficiently to clear major roads
• If you must travel, leave early, reduce speed and increase the following distance between your car and the vehicle in front
