PATH SERVICE TO OPERATE AROUND THE CLOCK ON NEW YEAR’S EVE, DAY
24-hour service restored for first time since Hurricane Sandy devastated system
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced today that service on its PATH rail system will operate around the clock on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to help revelers and holiday travelers reach their destinations safely. These extended hours mark the first time PATH service has resumed 24-hour operations since Hurricane Sandy’s storm surge devastated the system in late October, flooding tracks and causing billions of dollars of damage to electrical systems and switches.
On Tuesday, Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., PATH trains will run both ways from Newark to the World Trade Center, Journal Square to 33rd Street, and Hoboken and 33rd Street. Between the hours of 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day, PATH trains will run approximately every 10 minutes to and from Journal Square and 33rd Street, and Hoboken and 33rd Street. There will be no service during those hours between Newark and the World Trade Center.
On Monday. January 1, between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., PATH trains will be in service to and from Newark and the World Trade Center, Journal Square and 33rd Street, and Hoboken and 33rd Street. Service between Newark and the World Trade Center will end at 10 p.m. on January 1 and resume the following morning on a normal schedule.
