SERIOUS COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION BY THE CRESCENTA VALLEY SHERIFF’S STATION

SERIOUS COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION BY THE CRESCENTA VALLEY SHERIFF’S STATION

While working with the city of La Canada Flintridge, members of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and outside resources of the Department are doing the hard press to combat burglaries. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Bureau deputies, in conjunction with station Volunteers On Patrol and other station deputies, worked the area and surrounding communities for burglary suppression. Multiple arrests were made for marijuana, pornography, syringes, and a warrant for fare evasion. One parolee was found to have been in possession of a gun.

While many of our investigations are ongoing and we must be vague as not to jeopardize our investigations, this year, thirteen other arrests have been connected with local residential burglaries and property recovered and returned to their rightful owners. One suspect was arrested and held this Tuesday night by LAPD Foothill Division for a recent La Canada Flintridge residential burglary with most all the property taken in the burglary, including credit cards, gift cards, Rolex watch, and a jewelry box.

Crescenta Valley Station investigators have been working diligently with surrounding law enforcement agencies, including Glendale, Pasadena, and Los Angeles Police Departments in an effort to address the larger “regional” burglary problem through collaboration and cooperation.

What we have found, during many of our investigations, is that criminals identified and arrested do not reside in the Crescenta Valley Station area, but rather come to the community to commit the crime. We are asking if you see people acting suspiciously, please call (818) 248-3464 and if it appears to be an emergency situation, we ask that the community to call “911.”

The Sheriff’s Department has been successful in the past because of the partnership we have with the community. Quite frankly, we cannot do our job without citizens’ help. Realizing this we have reached out to the community and created a burglary prevention video to educate our community on burglary prevention. This video has been posted on the La Canada Flintridge public website and shown on the local cable television channel.

The La Canada Flintridge City Council and staff have been supportive in a collaborative effort with Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. Mayor Stephen Del Guercio of La Canada Flintridge said, “Mark Alexander, our City Manager, and I, along with other members of the council, have worked directly with CV Station management to protect our community, specifically in the area of burglary prevention. I have seen their dedication, concern, and enthusiasm to combat this problem. I urge residents to follow the station’s direction to call when they see suspicious persons or activities.”

Watching each other’s property is a key to prevention. If you would like to hold a Neighborhood Watch Program at your house or in your neighborhood in La Canada Flintridge, please call Deputy Eric Matejka at (818) 248-3464 to schedule one.
