Motorists travelling in Moiliili are advised that construction work for the Board of Water Supply’s ongoing water system improvement project on University Avenue will continue through the holiday season. Roadwork and intermittent road closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on University Avenue between Varsity Place and South King Street. Construction work on University Avenue is not subject to the Holiday Travel Lane Restriction issued by the City Department of Transportation Services.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during construction hours, if possible. Drivers traveling through the construction area are asked to please abide by posted traffic signs and allow for additional travel time.
A contractor is working to replace a 12-inch waterline that was originally installed in 1932. The project will improve fire protection, reduce the likelihood of emergency water main breaks, and enhance water service to residents and businesses in the area. This water system improvement project is expected to be completed in April 2013, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
