Sheriff George Ballard announces retirement
On December 6, 2012 Sheriff George Ballard announced his plan to retire at the end of his current term, December 31, 2014.
Sheriff Ballard is currently finishing his second year of his 5th term as Sheriff of Gibson County. At the end of his 5th term, Sheriff Ballard will have served as Sheriff for 20 years.
Sheriff Ballard started as a Deputy on June 16, 1975 and worked his way through the ranks as Sergeant, and Captain, and was first elected to the office of Sheriff in November 1982, taking office in 1983. Ballard served as Sheriff for four year terms starting in 1983, 1987, 1995, 1998, and 2011.
Sheriff Ballard has decided, with the support of his family, to retire. "I am in good health and would like to spend time traveling and being with our family".
"It has been an honor and privilege to serve the great citizens of Gibson County, as Sheriff. I will be 65 in April 2015, and it's time to retire. I have truly enjoyed my time in law enforcement and serving the citizens."
