Three Arrested Following a Landlord-Tenant Dispute

(Wallace, CA) On 12/02/12 at approx. 3:40 pm Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on the 7800 block of Highway 12 in Wallace for a report of a physical altercation. The subsequent investigation found that three Wallace men, Steven Casem (45), Daniel “Tommy” Butt (25), Sean Butt (24) (brothers), and Paul Meyers (49) of Oakdale, became engaged in a physical fight. The fight was the result of Suspect Casem removing personal property belonging to Suspect Daniel Butt from a shed that he was renting on Suspect Casem’s property. The sheriff’s office responded to this same residence the previous day for a report of an attempted unlawful eviction of Suspect Daniel.

According to Suspect Daniel, Suspect Casem allegedly produced a stick from a garage and threatened to smash Suspect Daniel’s television, which was lying on the ground at a gate. This resulted in a brawl between the two. As they fought on the ground Suspect Casem allegedly picked up a rock and struck Suspect Daniel on the back of the head several times. At some point during the fight Suspect Casem was struck in the head by a stereo speaker, allegedly by one of the Butt brothers. Suspect Meyers also involved himself in the fight by allegedly striking both Butt brothers with a stick or piece of wood. He was purportedly punched in the face by Suspect Sean Butt. Additionally, the Butt brothers stated that during this fracas both Suspects Meyers and Casem threatened to retrieve a gun from the garage and shoot the brothers.

Suspects Casem and Daniel Butt received facial and head lacerations during the fight and were transported to area hospitals. Suspect Sean Butt also received a minor injury to his hand. Suspect Meyers received a minor facial injury.

Suspects Casem, Daniel Butt, and Sean Butt were ultimately arrested and booked into the Calaveras County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon/not a firearm (felony), mayhem (felony), battery (misdemeanor) and criminal threats (felony). Charges against Meyers for criminal threats and battery are being reviewed.
