The holiday shopping season is upon us. Here are some tips in regards to shopping safety.

The Holiday shopping season has begun. Already, there has been some larceny from vehicles parked in area shopping centers. Below are some safety tips to keep in mind when shopping and how to protect your belongings. We are often extremely busy preparing for the holidays so we forget basic safety precautions.

- If possible, shop during daylight hours. If you must shop at night, go with a friend or family member.
- If you must keep purchases in your vehicle; make sure to secure them in your trunk.
- Keep all valuables in your vehicle out of sight and lock your car.
- Avoid wearing expensive and flashy jewelry.
- If you are carrying a purse, make sure to not set it down in a shopping cart or a checkout counter. Try to keep your purse as close to you as possible.
- Only carry the necessary cash, checks, and credit cards you expect to use.
- Try to avoid carrying large sums of cash.
- Stay alert to your surroundings or anyone following you. If you suspect someone is following you, contact a store manager, store security, or call 911. Stay in a well-lit and populated area until help arrives.
- Keep all valuables in your vehicle out of sight and lock your car.
