Stuart Police Explorer finds missing man listed with Silver Alert

November 21st, 2012

On 11/21/12 at approximately 2229hrs, the Stuart Police Department located a missing endangered adult. At 1430 hrs Larry Cubitt went missing from Englewood, Florida. He was driving his vehicle but he left without his identification, cell phone, or money. A Silver Alert was issued for Mr. Cubitt as he is 70 years of age and diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

At 2229hrs Stuart Police Explorer Bryce Rutzke was doing a Ride Along with Ofc. David Jacobson as part of the Stuart Police Explorer Program. While Ofc. Jacobson was on a traffic stop; Mr. Cubitt pulled up and began asking Rutzke for directions. Rutzke stated that Mr. Cubitt was asking how to get to Englewood. When Rutzke asked him if that was a street, city, or housing development, Mr. Cubitt appeared confused. After hearing the Silver Alert earlier and speaking with Mr. Cubitt for several minutes, Rutzke believed something wasn’t right and notified Ofc. Jacobson.

Once Ofc. Jacobson made contact with Mr. Cubitt he was able to confirm that he was in good health. He stated he was lost, cold and hungry. Stuart Fire Rescue responded and transported Mr. Cubitt to Martin North ER as a precaution where he waited for his family to arrive.
