Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, November 10, 2012, in the 1900 block of East 122nd Street, Los Angeles (unincorporated community).

Detectives have learned that at approximately 10:18 PM, Saturday, Sheriff's Century Station deputies saw a vehicle with two occupants in it. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic-stop on the vehicle for vehicle code violations.

As the deputies approached the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle, sped away from deputies. The deputies and an assisting sheriff's unit followed the vehicle Eastbound onto 122nd Street, from Wilmington Avenue.

The vehicle abruptly stopped at the 1900 block of East 122nd Street, where the suspect in the passenger seat quickly exited the vehicle and raised his arm from his waistband. Fearing that the suspect had a weapon, two deputies fired their duty weapon, striking the suspect. Lieutenant Coleman said the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second suspect, the driver of the vehicle, drove away from the scene. He was pursued by deputies.

The suspect crashed his vehicle at El Segundo Boulevard and Avalon Boulevard. He then exited the vehicle and fled on foot to evade apprehension.

An area containment was established and the suspect was subsequently arrested without incident.

No deputies were injured.

No weapon has been recovered.
