From the Jonesboro Police Department.
Recently there has been concern of vehicles driving around acting in a manner to present themselves as law enforcement officials. There are a few simple steps one can take as precautionary measure to stay safe in any such instance. First if a vehicle behind you presents itself as a police car, with something like a blue light on the dash, report it. The police rely on citizens to report things because we cannot be everywhere all the time. Second, if you are being stopped by a police car that seems out of sorts, call 911 on you cell phone and confirm that you are being stopped. Finally, be aware of your surroundings- if you can locate a well lit and well traveled area, stop in that area, as opposed to a dark and secluded area. Sometimes it is not possible to stop in a well traveled area, and this is why it is import to dial 911 and speak with the operator and let them know what is going on. If you are truly being stopped by a police officer the 911 operator will relay the fact that you are talking with them on the phone and make arrangements for you to stop.
Anyone with information as to the identity of the person posing as police officers, like in these two cases are encouraged to call 935-STOP and give an anonyms tip
